Date Night

My husband just got back from a two-week trip to Germany. While he was gone, I kept both kids and in that time I got sick, my youngest son woke up multiple times a night, my oldest son woke up early one morning and threw up, a tornado hit our neighborhood, and four days later we had another threat of severe weather so I took my boys and jumped in the car and drove south. So, needless to say, I would like a nice date night with my husband. Here are two looks that I think would be perfect for a three-hour dinner.

I don't typically go for an all over floral (or rain forest) print but there is something eye-catching about this dress. A busy dress like this one doesn't need a bunch of accessories that will compete with it. Keep it simple with minimal jewelry and a sleek clutch.

Summery Brights

I'm all about mixing colors right now. Now that it is spring (and nearly summer here), I find myself embracing bright colors more and more. There is just something about warmer weather that makes me love color even more. Maybe it is the trees finally blooming. Or the flowers burst into bloom. Whatever it is, I'm loving it!

I think this is a great casual summer outfit. Perfect for weekend lunches and shopping. I love to get dressed up but there are times when I just can't run around in heels. This look would be great for when I want to look cute but still need to be able to chase my toddler. (I've had to chase him down the boardwalk running at full speed before so flats are always smart when taking my babies out.)

I don't know about you, but for me, the weekend usually means dressing comfortably. Now just because you want to be comfortable doesn't mean that you can't look put-together and cute at the same time. These two looks have a 't-shirt and shorts' kind of feel but slightly elevated. Taking a basic striped shirt and pairing it with a scalloped-edge short keeps the first outfit feminine. Adding a bright pop of color with the earring is acknowledging the color trend without going overboard.

I love the second look (as much as I love the first). The pleated blouse can definitely be dressed up or down. Pairing it with a pair of floral shorts keeps the look casual. Of course, wearing flat shoes (with both looks) seems somewhat necessary for a busy girl on the go.

If I am going to be running errands, I usually do so on the weekends when I can go by myself. That means I am usually hitting up several places at once. I can definitely see myself wearing both of these looks. For once I cannot decide which look I like best!

Shorts 3 Ways

I don't know about you, but when I buy an article of clothing, I like options. Now, I don't always know right away what those different options will be, but that is part of the fun of shopping. You purchase a great piece and then bring it home to see how it will work in your closet.

I really liked these shorts and thought they would be fun to build a few outfits around. A pair of shorts has endless possibilities. The three looks I put together are definitely great for spring before the super hot weather sets in. For the two blazer options, just pair a basic t-shirt under them. Adding a blazer will break up the casual look and leave you looking crisp and polished. And in the summer? Ditch the blazers and throw on some statement jewelry (or a scarf if you don't live in Louisiana like I do) to dress the t-shirt up. As I said, the possibilities are endless.

Vegas Baby!

I am taking a trip (a much needed one) to Vegas in a few weeks, and I simply cannot wait! This will be the first trip that my husband and I have been on (alone) in over a year. Sometimes you just need to get away, you know what I mean?

I chose two looks that I think would be perfect for a Vegas getaway. The first look is chic and comfortable (a must for serious shopping). Somehow the breezy look of the pants just works for walking up and down the Vegas strip. A wedge shoe is much more practical than a heel for hitting the pavement. The large tote is perfect for fitting all of your essentials (wallet, camera, water bottle, etc). I like to be prepared when I go shopping and don't want to go back to the hotel for anything.

The second look is perfect for dinner, shopping, and maybe stopping at a video blackjack machine here and there. The sequins seem like they are a natural fit for Vegas so don't worry about looking over-the-top. Over-the-top is a must in Vegas! I also threw in the little question mark ring for fun. It seemed like a perfect accessory for playing a slot machine or two.

A Little Lace

After my post last week on lace (you can see it here), I couldn't stop thinking about how pretty the fabric was. I decided to build a couple of outfits around the intricately designed material. I picked two pair of shorts (one with lace trim and one full-on lace) and decided to do a day and evening look.

When putting these together, I actually thought I would like the day look best. It's casual, stylish, and comfortable all at the same time. I love to be comfortable. However, as I might have mentioned before, I love a good heel. With that said, I would have to say that the first look is my favorite. I love the look of a classic button-up shirt paired with feminine shorts. I also love the bright color of the blouse and the equally bright pump. The spiked ring adds a bit of edge to the outfit, which I love.
