Safari Chic

Old Navy jacket and skirt, F21 shirt, Target pumps, Urban Expressions clutch,
Essie's 'Orange It's Obvious' polish, F21 earrings, Charming Charlie cuff, Tobi glasses

This is about as close to a safari look as I will probably ever get. The shoes are faux snake skin and the clutch is faux alligator skin, playing into the animal theme.

I bought this outfit years ago when I was an extra in a movie that was being filmed here in Louisiana. I can't even tell you the name of the movie! I remember it had Michael Douglas and Jesse Metcalf. The movie was a courtroom drama but I never watched it. I should figure out what it is and rent it and see if I can see myself in it!

There have been many movies made here in my city in the past few years. I did some work as an extra (before children) and had fun doing it. But let me tell you, it is hard work! I was a cave girl in The Year One (with Jack Black) and we shot for five nights in a row (pulled all nighters each night) and filmed in 30 degree temps. I am impressed with those who work in the film industry because I know now that I don't have what it takes to make it in that industry.

  1. The dress is great but what really sets it off are the great accents you paired it with. I wish I got more adventurous with what shape of sunglasses I chose. Yours are fab!

  4. That's so cool that you were a film extra! I thought about doing it when I lived in NYC but they usually take people with their SAG card first. Love the safari vibe on you!

  6. How cool you have been an extra in movies?! And the fact that you haven't seen one of them is super funny. I would probably do the same thing. I love that jacket on you. Wicked flattering and love it paired with the stripes underneath!

  17. Such a cute look! Loving how you added the snakeskin and alligator touches for the theme! Working as an extra is soo hard! I worked on a couple of episodes for Friday Night Lights! The acting business isn't as glamourous as it seems! lol I'm think the movie you worked on is called Beyond A Reasonable Doubt! I've only seen it once! Next time I'll totally be on the lookout for you! lol

  37. I don't know if I can think too fondly of safari clothing, unless it's in an old black and white movie featuring a woman who gets kidnapped in the desert and yet manages to keep her mascara flawless. But by all means, it looks quite good on you! I love this clutch of yours!
