Cutouts & A Rant

Cutouts are everywhere you look these days. From shirts to shoes to bags, you just can't get away from this fun trend that is perfect for spring and summer.

I've focused on a cute little button-up shirt to show you a few different ways that you could wear this trend.

I can definitely see myself wearing all of these outfit sets, but my favorite is probably the last. I don't usually wear skirts and when I do, they tend to be made of leather. This little flippy skirt is so cute, though, and I love the chunky heel shoe with it as well.

Now on to my rant:

Lately I've decided that I want to start embracing pieces that I don't typically wear. I seem to always stay stuck in the same fashion rut and I'm itching to shake free from it. I love classic pieces but I have always been drawn to funky/edgy pieces as well. I think it is time that I (and all of us) should stop caring about what others think of what we wear. Who cares if people don't like it? If you like it then that is all that matters.

I ordered a dress a little while ago that is SO me but is something I normally wouldn't buy for myself. I think it was one of those, 'Oh this is a little too out there for some people,' but then I thought to myself, 'Who cares?!' I love it and it won't be for everyone but, like I said, it doesn't matter.

This isn't to say that I don't love classic, girly pieces. I love every single piece pictured above and would wear them in an instant. I think the point that I'm trying to make is that I'm tired of holding back from things that I love because I worry about what others will think. Does that make me insecure in a way? Maybe. But I think we might all have that feeling within us.

Embrace who you are. Wear whatever you want. And if someone doesn't like it, too bad, so sad.

  1. I just bought a cutout bag today that I am obsessed with! Can't wait to feature it on my blog! I am so obsessed with your outfits you came up with! So curious about how you set it all up to have the image go to each clothing item's website. Is that something you do on Polyvore? I love it! Also, totally agree with your rant, and chances are SOMEONE else is going to like it too, they are probably just too afraid to put themselves out there as well! Can't wait to see the dress you are talking about!

  8. I'm so excited to see this dress now! And I think that anyone should wear what they want! Especially fashion bloggers :) I've always enjoyed mixing strange colors together, or mis-matched pieces. My husband will sometimes be like "what is going on with your clothes?" and I cared at first... but he's gotta love all of me! ;)

  18. I couldn't agree more!!
It took me a long time to step out of my little box...I always told myself things like "I could wear that if I lived in the city"...but why should living in a small town stop anyone from being stylish? My other issue was confidence...I was always very aware of the fact that people judge based on how a person's dressed...finally I decided I didn't care if people are going to assume I'm a snob because I like to dress in a trendier way than most of the ladies in my town, because I know I'm not a snob...and the people that matter to me don't also!
I think if women wouldn't be so quick to judge it would be easier for people to step out of their box!

  19. Your rant is valid to many of us. We think it all the time I'm sure. Your last set is my fave as well-girly and fun!

  20. I have yet to jump on the cutout bandwagon, but I'm really tempted now :) I love that adorable little shirt, and all your sets are just wonderful. And I so agree with your "rant": I hate the limitations of "what would people say". People will always gossip (some of them really have nothing else to do :) and life's too short to care! Wear what you love, that's why I visit your blog: because you have a unique, beautiful style!

  28. I really like the cutout trend when it's done in a subtle and feminine way (like most of what you posted). And you should wear what you want. As long as you look classy and fits properly, who CARES if what you wear isn't to the taste of other people.

  29. Ok first, I love that blouse and I NEED that mint blazer NOW. Second, You should totally dress how you want! I work in an office where people don't dress up and never look stylish, but I always look cute (hello, I live in stuffy non fashion forward Mississippi). Neon pink jeans are totally weird at my office. But I wear mine proudly. Sequins to work? You betcha. At first I felt a little weird because everyone is so blah, but it makes me happy so what do I care. As long as I feel cute, that is all that matters. You know you are going to rock whatever you wear so just be confident and do it!

  30. First, I love all your sets. Secondly, I saw rock it if you love it. I don't think you should hold back either. Have fun with your wardrobe. Clothes should reflect who you are and how you feel so if you hesitate on trying a new look I think it's like holding back a piece of who you are. Ha! I'm getting all philosophical on you. I think you can wear whatever you want. You always look great. XO!

  31. I so agree...wear what you want and not what other people want you to wear. If you wear something with confidence, people will see that!

And I love the white wedges and printed pants! :)
