When it comes to choosing a lip color, I am opting for darker colors that feel more fall-appropriate. I have a bag of nearly twenty different lipsticks so when I am deciding on a color for the day, sometimes the choices are overwhelming. I decided to pull out all of my darker colors and put them together so I could see all of my choices. If you are like me and have several shades to choose from, this is a good method for picking your shade of the day. I took it a step further and smudged a bit on a tissue so I could visualize the shade a bit better.
Sometimes lipstick looks different when applied to a surface than it does straight from the tube.
When I do my nails at night, I always line up my polishes before picking my shade. I have to keep my polishes locked away in a cabinet (I have kids) so I constantly forget what I have. Lining them up is a great way to see what you have and to pick your perfect shade.
How do you pick your perfect shade?
I usually wear rose glossy for the day to day and red lips for special occasions!!

ReplyDeleteI can't wait to transition to deeper nail colors for fall--I just usually pick whatever polish suites my mood that day!

The Glossy Life
This is so weird, but I have a huge box of nail polish, and I can rarely decide on a color to wear. I usually narrow it down to 2-4 shades, and then I ask my husband to pick what color I should use out of those. However, I don't always pick the one he suggests, because if he picks one I don't REALLY want to wear, I suddenly become more aware of what I actually want. :) Poor husband.
ReplyDeleteYou have a great blog! Thanks for your lovely comment <3 following you now! Hope you follow me back. Xx

I just can't accept that it's almost fall! I'm still totally in love with my light pink lip stick!
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty simple when it comes to lip colour, same shade most days! I guess that's pretty boring. For nails though, I line them up too!
ReplyDeleteI have so many lipsticks, balms, glosses, treatments, etc. floating around in my purse that some days I wear whatever I can get my hand on first!! Clearly your idea is better!
ReplyDeleteFor lip colors, I take into consideration my skin tone (I'm tanner in the summer and can pull off lighter or brighter colors) and what colors are in my outfits. For nails, I just pick depending on my mood!

I have so many different shades of lipsticks but I still find it hard to wear them! I feel like I look ridiculous. I've heard though that to get used it you should just wear it around the house so maybe that's what I'll do it. Definitely in awe that you can wear it so easily..and well!

I am committed to three lip colors and I can't seem to cheat on them with any others. :) So, picking lip color is easy for me. I tend to set my nail polishes out too...but for some strange reason, I always seem to go back to the same ones. So boring, I know.

For nails, I pick whatever looks good with my skin. For fall, I gravitate towards nude or deep red polish, and in summer I'm a little more daring and bright. My makeup routine is pretty simple and doesn't currently include lipstick, but I've really been wanting to try red and nude lipsticks. This just inspired me to try it out. :)

I'm more of a lip gloss kind of girl...lipstick never looks right on me and I yet to find the perfect shade. As for my nails, I usually do them in whatever color strikes my fancy that day :)

I tend to get obsessed with a color per season. Last fall/winter was Russian Navy by OPI. I just picked up Bordeaux by Essie and I think that's my "Fall 2012" shade. I'm loving it on my toes!

I only have a few lipsticks, but they are all darker shades, nothing too bright or girly, ha ha

I've just recently started wearing lipstick so I don't have that many, but I'm def. adding more! I'm searching for a good plum-y type of color for the fall.
ReplyDeleteI'm not much of a lipstick girl, I just have a couple of glosses and that's it. :)

i think not knowing how to find my perfect shade is one reason why i stayed away from lipstick or any lip color for a long time thanks for sharing this!
ReplyDeleteGood tips. You are so systematic with makeup.

GREAT BLOG!!! Love it! I always try new nail polish colors when I get manicures and than go out and buy the color if I like it, I call it color tasting!

Honestly, I spend hours in Sephora sometimes....I literally will leave with my lips raw from having to wipe off lipstick so many times BUT when I do find the perfect one...I leave very happy.

I'm actually working at using less beauty products and focusing more on skin care, so right now I'm living vicariously through great bloggers like you when it comes to things like this!
