F21 top and earrings, Francesca's sweater, Zara pants and clutch, New York Transit heels, sunglasses (here) |
I pulled on my trusty F21 striped t-shirt with these new harem pants and somehow I managed to pull off looking like a pirate. Of course we were supposed to leave for church in ten minutes when I discovered that I hated the way my outfit looked. I grabbed this sweater and threw it on, hoping for the best. I kind of like how it turned out and I think that the pink in the sweater lessens the pirate effect.
I know a lot of other bloggers out there feel somewhat awkward about taking pictures in public, and I have to say that I feel the same way. We usually go somewhere without a lot of people. However, the occasional car will drive by slowly and I know they are wondering what is going on.
When we were taking these pictures a truck drove by slowly and a man started honking and cat calling. The man then called out an obscenity and drove off. We weren't in the nicest area but still, must people be so crass? I'm always so shocked when I see men treat women in such ways. While driving I've been flipped off by a man that was old enough to be my father. Really? Where has chivalry gone? I'm so fortunate to be married to a man who not only loves and respects me but treats other women with the utmost respect.
I plan on teaching my little boys the value of a woman (not as society sees her but as God sees her). Hopefully mothers today can see the problem with our society and raise up a nation of young men to become advocates and protectors to all of the little girls in our world. We need real men that will love and cherish women and not just see them as their next Saturday night conquest. Of course, I fully believe that girls/women have a pretty large role to play in this as well. I think they should stop flaunting their sexuality and using it as a way to garner attention. God intended for women to be loved and adored, not lusted after.
Somehow this post took off on its own but I couldn't help addressing something that has bothered me for a long time. I hope and pray that you all have someone in your life that loves you and treats you as God intended. And I'm not just talking about husbands. Boyfriends, friends, fathers, and sons: I hope that any man in your life would see the value you have as a person and a woman and cherish you for that.
Have a great day!
love this post. the outfit and the message. i also feel weird taking pictures in public for that reason. i was once chased by a guy, have been hollered and yelled at, laughed at... terrible manners!

I love the double stripes!! This is a favorite look for me! You look fabulous & I love the subject you're addressing. It is so important in this day and age to stress women respecting themselves and men respecting women. I agree with everything you said.:)

I cringe at catcalls...I have my kids with me 99% of the time and how do you explain what that means without saying it's okay. My boys will be in trouble if they ever do that at any age. Such a cute outfit not reading pirate at all! Loving those pants!
ReplyDeleteHaha, I do kinda see the pirate look! I adore that sparkly clutch of yours!

I totally agree! I can't tell you how upset I get when I hear some random guy yell "Hey baby!" from across the street. And really - what do they think is going to happen? Do they think I am going to run over to them and jump into their arms? Come on now. On a lighter note - LOVE the outfit. Double stripes are so fun!

First, super cute non-pirate outfit. Those pants look so great on you. Second, well said about how God has intended for us to be treated. I definitely want to instill this into my son as well.

I totally agree with you! I hate being looked at and spoken to in a disrespectful manner. I love that my boyfriend is not like that at all. One of the reasons I chose to date him was because he was the only guy who perused me by getting to know me rather than just complimenting my looks. I love that about him, he loves and respects me inside and out.
ReplyDeleteOh and p.s. I love your outfit! I'm so scared to try the harem pants. But seeing as they are so adorable on everyone else I may have to give them a go!

Lovely outfit, love those shades. I know what you mean, I don't know why some men just treat women so degrading. I don't get people in general that have to "get involved" in other peoples doings, by shouting out stuff or so.

i love the colors of your stripes, but i think my favorite part of the outfit is your clutch! :)

I love the last minute sweater addition. It def completes the look!! And I agree....our society has gone to pot. People, men or women, have lost complete respect for people. It's gross. And sad.

I love the sweater, especially over the other striped top.
ReplyDeleteI have often wondered where chivalry has gone... but not even just chivalry, general politeness too! I'm shocked at how things have changed, even in the short time since I was growing up.
really really loving the double stripes!!! it looks great!
ReplyDeletemen and women both need to do their part in protecting... men protecting women as the weaker vessel and women protecting men with their purity.

ReplyDeleteI completely agree, Amy. Although no one has ever cat called at me or anything while I've taken photos.. I'm sure it's bound to happen at some point. I'm blessed to have an amazing fiance that treats me as a woman should be treated! His parents did a good job! ;)

Oh, gosh, the awkward blogger picture taking. I don't think I'll ever master photos in public without being awkward. Luckily, I haven't encountered any overly rude people yet, of course, I usually chicken out and just take photos at home. lol!
ReplyDeleteharem pants are so tricky to style, but they do look very cute with your print mix!
ReplyDeleteChic on the Cheap
I love this look, the stripes look so pretty and your hair is gorgeous! And taking pictures in public is very hard, and awkward. That is so rude of him to do that, sometimes people just need to mind their own business.
ReplyDeleteThere are so many things I love about this outfit! Even though I usually don't like harem, your outfit is so awesome that it is really making me change my mind. I LOVE how you wore it with double stripes and a sparkly clutch.
ReplyDeleteUGHHH YES I so agree with you on that! So sorry you were yelled rude things at and if I ever have kids, i'll definitely be teaching them not to degrade women like that too.
Ive been looking for some harem pants like that. But since im short, not sure how they will look!

I think chivalry is dead because women are trying to kill it...but maybe that's a whole other topic! I think that has to do with women using sex, like you said, to get power and attention. But maybe that would change if young men were taught to respect women. Anyway, you are rockin' the harem pants! I don't think I could pull it off you it looks great on you!
